About this deal

Following the horrific events of the Battle of Calth, the XIII th Legion had been badly crippled and no longer presented a viable threat to Horus' plan to drive on Terra. Erebus had managed to complete his blasphemous ritual on Calth's surface, which summoned a Ruinstorm to the galaxy's Eastern Fringe -- a monstrous Warp Storm larger and more destructive than anything spacefaring humanity had witnessed since the days of the Age of Strife. Cut off from the Imperium, the Lord Macragge decided to secure the Five Hundred Worlds of the Realm of Ultramar. He decided to anchor what remained of the Imperium of Man on the Ultramarines' homeworld of Macragge. The XIII th Legion had discovered the means to help navigate their voidships through the Warp without the beacon of the Astronomican through the use of the recently discovered xenos-technology on the world of Sotha known as the Pharos.

This is a story that forces us in Britain to rethink our deeply held traditions that come to the front of our minds this week and still have the power to affect our national mood, including the capacity to soothe, even momentarily, the chaos and fractures of Brexit Britain. We can’t say that we remember all our war dead with honour and dignity and yet exclude a third of a million people who died in their own continent serving Britain. Next week, as I lay my wreath in Tottenham, I will be remembering them all. By 014. M31, it became clear that the Emperor and Terra endured, thanks in large part due to the visions of Sanguinius and the captive Curze. The Triumvirate of Imperium Secundus decided to abandon their project, which many now considered redundant and heretical. Imperium Secundus was abolished and its territories were once again declared part of the Realm of Ultramar under the Regency of Valentus Dolor. Guilliman, Sanguinius, and Lion El'Jonson led the bulk of their respective legions through the Ruinstorm in hopes of reaching Terra and aiding the Emperor in his final struggle, though ultimate only Sanguinius and the Blood Angels would succeed in this. [5] Sources Roboute Guilliman: Lord of Ultramar • Leman Russ: The Great Wolf • Magnus the Red: Master of Prospero • Perturabo: The Hammer of Olympia • Lorgar: Bearer of the Word • Fulgrim: The Palatine Phoenix • Ferrus Manus: Gorgon of Medusa • Grandfather's Gift • Perturabo: Stone and Iron • Malcador: First Lord of the Imperium • Konrad Curze: A Lesson in Darkness • Jaghatai Khan: Warhawk of Chogoris • Vulkan: Lord of Drakes • Sons of the Emperor • Corax: Lord of Shadows • Angron: Slave of Nuceria • Scions of the Emperor • Konrad Curze: The Night Haunter • Ghost of Nuceria • The Passing of Angels • The Abyssal Edge • Mercy of the Dragon • Lion El'Jonson: Lord of the First • Illyrium • The Revelation of the Word • Morningstar • Will of the Legion • Embers of Extinction • Alpharius: Head of the Hydra • Blood of the Emperor • Loyal Sons • Mortarion: The Pale King • Rogal Dorn: The Emperor's Crusader • Sanguinius: The Great Angel • Heirs of The Emperor I mean, there was so much opportunity for so much more in the novel when it comes to the various Legions, and I think the novel really wouldn't have been any different had most of them not been involved at all. Other than it really made it seem like MaCragge's beacon did make the difference and save lives. Dan Abnett has described this as the most difficult novel he has ever written, and it's not hard to see why. The thing about the Horus Heresy series is that it is a collaborative effort, several authors working together to expand a universe populated with a multitude of different characters, locations, and objects. The amount of work put in to maintain continuity in a series that has over two dozen other novels to it's name is truly impressive. It was intended to split the void asunder, dividing the galaxy in two and rendering vast tracts of the Imperium of Man impassable for many standard centuries. The Ruinstorm would also isolate and trap those Loyalist forces caught behind it like the Ultramarines, preventing them from coordinating their efforts and supporting one another as the Traitor Legions moved towards Terra. It would even prevent them from warning each other, for a time, of the Warmaster Horus' betrayal and the interstellar civil war that had begun to consume the Imperium. The Ruinstorm would leave Terra alone in the void, infinitely vulnerable to the approaching shadow of Horus. But soon the answer to Guilliman's prayers were answered, in the form of the arrival of an Imperial Expeditionary Fleet translating in-system, newly arrived from the Thramas Sector in the Eastern Fringes. This fleet was led by none other than his fellow Primarch, Lion El'Jonson, and belonged to El'Jonson's Dark Angels Legion.

The problem is where this series is at as a whole. Dan Abnett himself references this in his note at the end, this book is trying to weave together characters and situations from at least a dozen previous novels in this series. I distinctly remember the grand assembly when the Lion first arrives and is greeted by the honour guard, including TWO...yes...TWO Imperators! As a brief aside before we begin, I’ll freely admit I went into this in the worst of minds. To the old canon of the Horus Heresy, the Ultramarines involvement was over. They had fought at Calth, been given extended focus thanks to Lorgar and Angron’s crusade, and were trapped at Macragge. Beyond short stories the series should have been done with them, as the reason for their later strength was that they escaped the worst of the fighting. Diverting nearly the entire series to Macragge felt less like a true story development and more an effort to keep the spotlight on Games Workshop’s personal mascots than let them become side-lined. Something not helped by the continual shilling of the legion in other novels, keeping them in nothing but a superior-to-all light. They were taken whether they liked it or not,” Mwavaka said. “They would beat them to submission. When he was killed they shaved his hair and brought it home to us. Only the hair was brought”. But the unknowable Primarch of the Dark Angels is an enigma, a man with secrets about his secrets. While Gulliman is somewhat in awe of the oldest brother in the Emperor's brood, his respect doesn't translate into trust. Jonson, likewise, views Gulliman's empire-building as a flirtation with heresy, stopping short of condemning his brother outright. Of course, Jonson couldn't have much to say about Roboute repealing the Edict of Nikaea, having beheaded his own chaplain with his fist for upholding that very same decree. The three agreed to end Imperium Secundus, imprison Curze with the Lion as his jailer, letting the truth of it be lost to history. They then prepared their fleets for the long and perilous journey through the Ruinstorm – for Terra, and the final battle of the war which awaited them. INQUISITION SPOILER ALERT: This article contains plot points from various Horus Heresy stories, including: ‘The Lion’, ‘Vulkan Lives’, ‘The Unremembered Empire’, ‘Pharos’ and ‘Angels of Caliban’. Guilliman hesitated to declare the formation of the Imperium Secundus formally and publicly, having admitted his intention to his closest confidences only. He had strength in his conviction of its necessity, but would not shrink from the more unedifying aspects of the proposal. He wasn't bound by the fear that he was usurping the Emperor every bit as much as Horus. In truth, his hesitation was born of grief. The Imperium Secundus was located on the Eastern Fringe of the galaxy in the Segmentum Ultima and at its peak in size it compromised roughly five hundred worlds and was centered on the Ultramarines' own Realm of Ultramar.

The Lion dwelled in secrets, and played his cards too close, for he walked by himself when he pleased. There was too much of the wild forest in him. The Lion should have been as noble as any of Guilliman's brother Primarchs, but they had never been close, and there was too much about him that was sly. Yet, despite his personal misgivings, Guilliman welcomed the Lion with the formality and respect due his prestigious position. With the end of 'The Unremembered Empire' we're finally going to be moving into some truly undiscovered areas before heading to the EPIC Battle Of Terra. I can't wait to see how it all ends because, no doubt, what I thought I knew will be completely different to how it actually goes down. And in the meantime, you can experience the rise and fall of Imperium Secundus for yourself in the snappily titled ‘ Imperium Secundus’, a digital collection of 4 novels, 11 short stories and 3 audio dramas that tells the whole tale outlined above in much more detail, as well as exploring more characters and events from the period. After the battle, Guilliman and Lion El'Jonson almost came to blows over what to do about Konrad Curze, the Primarch of the Night Lords Traitor Legion, who was still loose on Sotha. Curze was believed to have been responsible for organising a series of suicide bombings and rebellions that targeted Guilliman's authority on Macragge, which resulted in Lion El'Jonson in his role as Lord Protector using the Dark Angels to put Macragge under martial law and deploying the Dreadwing, one of the Dark Angels' six specialised Hexagrammaton formations or "Wings," which made use of weapons of mass destruction like Phosphex and Vortex Weapons, to devastate the rebellious areas of the planet. Curze was ultimately captured by The Lion in the Illyrium region and forced to stand trial. Mwamkono Mwavaka and his wife in their garden in Kenya. Another Star Player? We’re salivating at the prospect. And so is Withergrasp Doubledrool, a heavily mutated Beastman with two heads and tentacles aplenty. He/they employs his/their god-given gifts in “Favoured of…” teams, proving difficult to take down, and even harder to escape from when they take up residence on the line of scrimmage. Withergrasp Doubledrool will be available in resin. Curze just makes everyone look so incompetent, pretty much single handedly conquers the entire planet. Only slightly exaggerating, not by much. Makes my favorite primarch and his legion looks like absolute fools. Which I'm a little bitter with Abnett's handling of the Dark Angels. If you don't know how the Heresy ends it leaves you wondering how any of these bumbling idiots could hope to challenge the likes Horus and Abaddon. The Night Haunter is a ridiculous character, not really a fan of the whole 9 foot tall post human in power armor conveniently disappearing in every shadow. As always this is licensed fiction so unless you're specifically looking for a Warhammer 40k novel don't take this as a recommendation. John Grammaticus shows up yet again, with a comrade in arms, which makes a nice to change to meet another perpetual cabal agaent.

You needed rest. Besides the injuries, you spent too long drinking that foul brew with the heathens last night''Mjod is... an interesting concoction' Guilliman agreed. 'As for the Wolves, I like their honesty. I like much less battle-brothers who hide their intentions and make guile a weapon' I had this gut feeling that it was either going to be the best 40k novel or just fall completely flat due to the overambitious nature of the endeavor. From my point of view, it is the latter and is such a disappointment. Following a formal inspection of the Ultramarines Legion's formidable Macragge Civitas, the capital city of the world, the two Primarchs retired to a private chamber to speak candidly to one another. It was here that Guilliman had created a meeting place for the Emperor and his twenty sons. A long table, carved from stone, dominated the length of the room. Around it were twenty-one chairs, all built for the giant scale of a Primarch. Each one was cut from the same mountain granite as the table.
