About this deal

Here, Abnett gets the chance to play with the manifestations and effects of chaos through the eyes of both loyalists and traitors, generating some seriously spine-chilling horror, action and the mental and physical degreation of chaos. Reference after reference build, almost subconciously, to a 40k-universe-shattering revelation, one that will draw a million points of speculation and theorycrafting far into the future. The Emperor wants Sanguinius to stay because his wounds from Angron were grave but Sanguinius believes he is fated to die due to Horus.

But that’s not all this one is, because there’s a great deal of symbolic importance to the End above and beyond it being the first half of the End itself. Every now and again there’s a round trip to check on the moving pieces, but there’s too many to leave them all important or useful. The End and the Death Volume 2 will be available soon in hardback, and we’ll have more info on Volume 3 on Warhammer Community as soon as we get it! Horus as he presents himself to Mersadie Oliton gives us the man himself in his own eyes, in stark contrast to the second person sections where we as the reader are chained to a broken, demon-haunted husk of arrogance, hubris and madness. Dan Abnett has written over fifty novels, including the acclaimed Gaunt’s Ghosts series and the Ravenor, Eisenhorn and Bequin books. We’re taken through the final dying days of the Siege of Terra, where the Loyalist forces are either locked behind the Eternity Gate or they’re ending their lives in blood and pain out in the ruins of the Palace. And weirdly, I found an enormous sympathy with Abaddon and the situation he finds himself in – where he’s obviously completely committed to doing terrible things. Ingo tells John Grammaticus the Alpha Legion's plan was to wait, observe and then intervene on behalf of the side who looked likely to win on Terra. We’ve created two digital wallpapers, one for your phone and one for your desktop, which are free to download below.

There will be other books, from the Black Library and from Dan – this is only part one after all – and there will be other series. Next up, there’s a distinctively madcap vibe descending, while Andy Clark takes time off from clawing at the moon to talk about a new Gitz book. They lay the groundwork for the big revelations, they drive the plot forward and they allow Abnett to draw up Horus as a worthy enemy of the Emperor. Our world is now stuck in an endless moment, the doomsday clock set firmly at one minute to midnight. he commands Dorn and Valdor to come with him, tells Sanguinius to remain on Terra and command the defences as Warmaster, Vulkan will remain in the Throne room, ready to blow it up if everything goes wrong. That’s where the book ends, with the major players drawn to the Vengeful Spirit where the final drama will unfold in part two. The End and the Death Vol II by Dan Abnett is a tour de force – answering almost as many questions as it poses, and culminating in the definitive version of a duel that’s lingered in the background for real-time decades. And that is very different in every respect to the centrepiece of part three, which is Horus vs the Emperor.

Others, unfortunately read like some of the early attempts to establish the Stormcast Eternals as viable protagonists, all nounverbers at the placenames against the adjective verbnouners. Working out the story he wanted to tell must have been the most difficult part of writing this for Dan Abnett, because we know what should be in this book and can even guess what should be in part two – the shields of Horus’ flagship are lowered, the Emperor, Dorn, Sanguinius and his Custodian Guard teleport aboard. With the war at this critical juncture, Sanguinius, primarch of the loyalist Blood Angels, braves the horrors of the Warmaster’s flagship, The Vengeful Spirit, with a single purpose in mind: to slay his brother Horus, decapitate the Heresy once and for all, and stop the forces of Chaos from taking Holy Terra. The war is mostly over, everyone left outside the Eternity Gate when it was sealed knows they've been left to die and group themselves into haphazard units and formations. There’s a few minor and some major characters that could do with wrapping up or at least positioning before the final showdown. This book is already known to be larger than vol 1 (which was already huge) and we are getting a vol 3 q1 next year. it is noted that this strikes a deep note of fear in the Imperial Fists who pride themselves on being to plan for everything. Hopefully in part two, when the must-tie-up threads cease their infernal dangling, we’ll get the End and the Death. Witness the final confrontation – Horus and the Emperor, locked in mortal combat on the warp-wracked Vengeful Spirit , high above the ruined Imperial Palace on Terra, as their fleets lock horns in the void of space.
